LYRE Bio

Dave Hoskins (left) and Matt Quarterman of LYRE
LYRE is conscious pop rock. Serving up an inspirational set of original work, this guitar-driven Seattle band has a simple creed: Music, done well, can entertain, enlighten, and even heal the human soul. This theme is displayed throughout bandleader Dave Hoskins’ songs which features haunting melodies, deft guitar work and sweeping universal themes.
The band’s sound pays homage to a who’s who of guitar bands ranging from Dire Straits and U2 to REM and Coldplay while Hoskins’ vocals conjure David Byrne and Lou Reed. Guitarist and harmony singer Matt Quarterman keeps the riffs interesting and his tenor voice balances the vocals nicely. The lyrics could be described as “Pink Floyd on Prosac” taking an optimistic approach to existential themes.
LYRE’s concept came to Hoskins a few years back during a time of soul searching. “I was really into reading the psalms of David in the and I started thinking if I could channel a fraction of the energy that made his work so potent and timeless I’d be on to something big,” Dave recalls. “The band’s name references the lyre which was a gift from the gods in Greek mythology and also David’s use of the harp to heal King Saul in the Bible. I’m really passionate about helping others discover their best life, so to me the name LYRE represents what this band stands for.”
